Judging from the emails that self-called gurus send, there are rules to make it on the internet. The existence of rules is not a surprise, the surprise comes from what these rules are... at least seem to be, according to the stories (but truly: the one story) we are told.
For some reasons that are never explained, to be successful, you have to fulfill rather dubious prerequisites.
Since all the stories we are told start with "a broke, illiterate, drunken kid"
who is proposed as a model, I wonder what the buyers tell their kids (I mean true kids, those who are under 14,
and still need to be brought up). Never mind.
How does the broke, illiterate, and drunken kid make it?
First, he discovers a secret.
Then, he exploits it: usually, he creates a piece of
software, as any illiterate can do.
Actually, when he is filthy rich, it is time for his debutante presentation.
That is the point when you start receiving emails from people who recommend you buy the software for a mere handful
of thousands of dollars.
(Do you remember John Reese and his $1000 course? But the times they are a-changing, my friend.)
You are somewhat reluctant to throw away your good money, without knowing for sure what you will get.
What you know for sure is:
The product, the program, or the course may be what you need, if not to make you a millionaire, to put you on the right tracks, which is not bad either. But if you are like me, you are seldom disposed to purchase a high priced product, be it a software or anything else, that has not been tried and put to work by someone who does "real work in the real world".
Gurus struggle (ie: add bonuses) to make you purchase through their affiliate link, but most times they do not know what they are selling and are just copying the model their buddy (the one who is going to rake in $100K, and who is NOT you) gives them.
Then, they move on to the next big thing -their turn to rake in millions- and you start receiving emails about another broke, illiterate, and drunken kid who is going to show you how he made it on the internet.
